A Home Away From Home

Dave from Network Rail found a home away from home in Maidstone. Here’s how.

Dave’s day usually starts before the sun’s even up.

By 5:30 AM, he’s already had his tea, packed his kit, and is off to meet his team working on a major Network Rail upgrade near Maidstone.

He’s used to life on the move, different towns, rotating shifts, and the ever-present challenge of
“where am I staying this time?” Hotels often felt too cramped.
Airbnb? Hit or miss.

And he was tired of long drives after 12-hour shifts.

That’s when he found us Kent Housing UK.

“It felt different from the start,” Dave told us. “Someone actually asked what shift pattern I was on before offering me a place. That’s never happened before.”

We set Dave up in a serviced apartment just 10 minutes from his site. A proper kitchen for his end-of-day fry-ups. A washer-dryer to avoid the weekend launderettes runs. And a bed that, in his words, “doesn’t feel like it’s judging me for being knackered.”

Even better, he could park right outside, and check in late after a double shift.

No fuss. No confusion. Just a clean, warm, quiet place to crash, reset, and do it all again the next day.

“It’s weird to say it,” Dave laughed, “but it feels like my place, even though I’m only here for the job.”

That’s exactly why we do what we do.

For every hard hat, hi-vis jacket, and steel-toe boot, there’s a person behind it who deserves to rest properly.
