Last month the Kent Housing team packed up their things and exhibited at the Landlord Investment Road Show – an excellent opportunity for us to build stronger business relationships within Kent, meet some of our existing landlords and create contacts with new investors.The exhibition was well-attended and included a range of exhibitors from Kent Fire and Rescue to well established Auctioneers. Notable among the keynote speakers were Richard Bowser from Property Investors News and Peter Littlewood from Southern Landlord’s Association.

This was the first Road Show that we’ve exhibited at and we’re looking forward to many more.

Last month saw us move into a larger, more spacious office to fit our growing team. We’re still in the same building which is located at 13 Military Road, Chatham ME4 4JG just above a cafe where we run weekly coffee mornings on Wednesdays 9am-12pm. They are a great opportunity to meet the team and discuss your property needs. I have worked in housing for over 5 years, each day brings new tasks and challenges. I lead a team of 3 full-time staff and 8 contractors. I generally start my day at 9am by checking my emails and responding to calls from Landlords, Housing Associations/Councils, and Tenants.I have a meeting at 9:30am with staff for a brief catch up on inspections and repairs. I provide support on issues such as repairs, council tax enquires, water and gas bills, property acquisitions, marketing and any matters that needs urgent attention.

Key Performance Indicators and marketing is the most important part of my role at present at Kent Housing. We see this as an effective way of ensuring we meet our ethos of “Quality Home, Sustaining Communities” ensuring our Landlords and tenants are stratified with our services.I also manage the marketing and branding of Kent Housing. We are currently involved in promoting the brand on KM Radio, Local Newspapers and a Coffee Morning for Landlords every Wednesday at the Nucleus Art Centre at 13 Military Road Chatham where are based.

Normally I leave the office around 5 o’clock. While no one working day is the same, at the end of each day I always ensure that nothing is left outstanding, as staff and colleagues are relying on me to provide information which enables us to provide the best possible services.

One of the most rewarding aspects of my job is recognising that at the end of the day my knowledge and management has helped my colleagues achieve not only their personal targets and aims, but has also assisted them in carrying out the goals of Kent Housing. We are proud that we are on track to becoming “Kent’s Best Housing Provider” and meeting our vision to providing quality homes, excellent services to our customers and employees.

Meet Dominic Eames. Plumbing and Heating Engineer for Kent Housing

We couldn’t achieve our goal of supplying quality homes, sustaining communities without our valued contractors. This month we meet Dominic Eames of Domino Plumbing and Heating. Dominic talks about how he started in the industry and why he enjoys working with us. We are pleased to see how Dominic’s business is growing side-by-side with Kent Housing and how his team is diversifying to keep up with demand.

What do you do for Kent Housing?
  • Carry out Gas Safety Inspections
  • Carry out emergency boiler breakdown repairs
  • Carry out emergency plumbing repairs

When did you start working in the industry? How did you get started?

Started working in the industry 12 years ago by working for an underfloor heating installer, this then progressed to a qualification and then to becoming Gas Safe Qualified.

What made you want to work with Kent housing?

There is a varied type of work and this includes a large percentage of reactive work which is very satisfying when a problem is resolved and the tenant is left happy.

What is unique about Kent housing?

They cater for a niche market and always seem to go out of their way to resolve a problem for tenant/landlord with the minimum of fuss.

How did you find out about Kent housing?

We were approached by Kent Housing to carry out a Gas Safety Inspection and a boiler repair at a property.

What’s been good about working with them?

There is always a clear concise instructions on what work is required, regular communication from the whole team as to what is required of us as contractors.

What are you looking forward to in the future with Kent housing?

We are looking forward to having a closer working partnership with Kent Housing . We have already taken on a Lady plumber to allow us to cope with the increase in work from Kent Housing. This will allow us to deal with the hoped increase in work from Kent Housing and other areas in the market place.
